Suffolk Park Progress Association becomes Suffolk Park Community Association following unanimous member vote
Suffolk Park Progress Association has officially transitioned to Suffolk Park Community Association (SPCA), marking an important milestone in the organisation’s ongoing development & future direction.
The change was approved by members at a Special General Meeting held on 28th April 2026, with the new name formally recorded by NSW Fair Trading on 1st May 2026.
The meeting was convened for one purpose only: consideration of the proposed name change. Members gathered specifically to discuss & vote on that motion, with the proposal receiving strong support from those in attendance both in person & online.
Fittingly, the meeting also took place on SPCA President Kelly Minahan’s birthday. While he was unable to attend in person, due to family commitments, he joined online & was thrilled to hear the motion had passed, making it a very special birthday present.
"The word progress may be seen as polarising, our community wants unity" he said.
The transition builds on the longstanding contribution of previous committees, volunteers & community members who have supported the organisation over many years. At the same time, it reflects evolving approaches to community participation, communication & collaboration within Suffolk Park.
The name Community Association better reflects the broader range of community engagement, consultation, initiatives & partnerships now shaping the organisation’s work, while continuing the advocacy & community spirit that have long been part of its foundation.

More Than a Name Change
The transition to Suffolk Park Community Association reflects the ongoing development of an organisation with a long history of community involvement, advocacy & volunteer contribution.
Building on the work of previous committees, volunteers & community members, the organisation has continued adapting alongside the community it represents.
Over time, this has included:
While the name has changed, the core focus remains the same: supporting Suffo through local advocacy, community participation & practical outcomes.
What’s In a Name?
The idea of transitioning from Progress Association to Community Association had been discussed within the organisation for many years, reflecting a shared recognition across different committees that the community itself had continued to evolve over time.
This year, we decided it was the right moment to formally progress that change.
The name Community Association better reflects how people now engage with community life across Suffolk Park, from volunteering & local initiatives through to consultation, events, digital communication & collaborative projects.
The change continues the organisation’s long-standing commitment to community advocacy, connection & local involvement.
Thank You
SPCA would like to sincerely thank all members who attended the Special General Meeting & participated in the vote.
Community organisations are only as strong as the people who choose to contribute their time, ideas, energy & support & it was encouraging to see members engage so positively in this next chapter for the organisation.
We also extend our thanks to the many volunteers, past & present committee members, supporters & residents who contribute constructively to Suffolk Park, in ways both large & small.
Looking Ahead
SPCA will continue building on the work of those who came before, while creating new opportunities for residents to participate, connect & contribute to the future of our village.
